HP Envy x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-ac0000 (8Z200AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy x360 with an Intel Core i7, which I got last year, has suddenly been experiencing crashing issues this week and last week.  Originally, it seemed to be only with one game client, but now, for example, if I'm using the Roblox application and a Discord application—I've never experienced a problem running both at once—if I switch from Roblox to Discord, my screen goes entirely black and it crashes. It does the same thing for Minecraft, and it doesn't matter if I'm switching applications or not. I can also just be on the browser version of Discord, and after a while, a crash will occur. So far, I've only had  blue screens; mes the rest of the time, the screen just goes black, whichever application crashes, and it continues to move on. I went to the HP support website, downloaded drivers, and so on, for anything that might be the cause, but to no avail. My laptop is up to date with updates, and I generally don't know where to go from here.

@ReiMu, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding black screen issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Update Graphics Drivers

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your laptop model.
  • Additionally, check for driver updates on the Intel and AMD/NVIDIA websites (depending on your specific GPU).

Perform a System Update

  • Ensure your Windows operating system is fully updated.
  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Check for Software Conflicts

  • Ensure all your applications are updated to their latest versions.
  • Disable any third-party overlay software (like Discord overlays) during gameplay.

Run Diagnostics

  • Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for hardware problems.
  • Restart your laptop and press F2 repeatedly to enter the diagnostic mode.

System Restore

  • If the issue started recently, you might want to perform a system restore to a point before you started experiencing the crashes.
  • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore and follow the prompts to restore to an earlier point.

Check for Malware

  • Run a comprehensive antivirus/malware scan to ensure your system is clean.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
