Hotm envy 15

When I turn my laptop on the screen is black and white vertical lines running through it. If I hold the screen in the bottom right hand corner the display will come up and I have to keep holding it otherwise it goes black and the lines come up as soon as I let go.

Hi,

Most likely the display has become defective and needs replacing. At first I thought since pressimg the lower right-corner gave the image that it could be the cable on the back of the panel which is not seated correctly or firmly. However, the connection of cable is left lower center of the screen (looking at notebook with screen open).

Part number 8 on page 22 of service manual.

You can also see in display panel video (choose in list on left) in these HP videos

So I would first take a look at the cable and see if it is in place. Next, if still faced with the same problem I would replace the screen. The part number is 812703-001 and you can find online for not too expensive.

Let me know if you need further help and if you decide to replace the screen. In your model it is more complex because the whole computer needs to be dismantled.

Hope it helps,

David

Thank you for the information, I have since been in touch with hp and still waiting to hear back on what they are going to do next as my laptop is still covered by a care package. From what you have told me they will surely be taking it in for repair!
