My laptop turns on and signs me in with face recognition but logs me into a black screen. I've tried resetting and shutting down but problem persists. I also tried alt, control delete and it will give me options. The problems lies with logging into my desktop. And I do not know how to remove the battery....

If you leave the laptop at the black screen and it eventually gets to desktop in 5-10 minutes it is a Windows Update problem.

Right click the windows start button and click on "Run".

In the run box type msconfig.

Go to Services tab and disable App Readiness. (uncheck all except App Readiness and then tap disable button)

 

Basically- App Readiness gets applications ready for first logon or when adding new apps. It has been part of Windows since Windows 8 and has caused  long startup problems sporadically on both.

If you have a problem installing a new app from the Windows Store you may have to re-enable it temporarily. You might also try re-enabling it after the next round of updates since it may resolve itself then.

I tried that's but after restarting the problem persists.

You may have a driver problem-particularly graphics driver. Have you checked your Support page for an updated driver?

Get your full Model number or Product number from the Service Tag attached to bottom of laptop. OR-a quick way to find it is minimize all open windows so you can see your desktop screen. Next hold the fn key and press esc key.
 
 Once you have the info, use the button at top of this page titled "Support", then click "Software and Drivers" from the menu. On the next page enter your Product Number. After entering  click 'Find ' button. On the next page be sure correct OS is selected-if not click Change to edit .A list will populate with drivers/software.

Actually, I had disabled more than I was supposed to so I did as you said and it logged me right into my desktop. Thank you!

Resolving the black screen issue caused by Windows 10 update

If you have previously disabled App Readiness

  1. Boot the PC
  2. Click Start and type Services
  3. Open desktop app Services and find App Readiness
  4. Open the service and set Startup type to Manual
  5. Click Apply and close the window
  6. Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
  7. Reboot PC

If you have not disabled App Readiness

  1. Boot the PC
  2. Wait 15-20 minutes for the boot process to complete and desktop to load
  3. Once on desktop, Download and install HP Image Enhancement for System Logon - http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp81501-82000/sp81965.exe
  4. Reboot PC

Soft Pack did not help. Waiting 5 to 10 minutes or 5 to 10 hours does not help. After logging in and getting the black screen I can Ctrl-Alt-Delete and get the switch user/logout/task manager, etc. menu. If I launch the task manager, I can use it to start a task and open Chrome or mmc. Those show up as if they are on an external monitor. But my built in monitor is the only physical device I have.

 

Win-P kind of brings up the monitor list. After Win-P I pressed Alt-tab and the Win-P icon appears in the box but cycling through the icons just keeps me within the procs I can see. Can't Win-I to bring up Settings to adjust devices.

 

I have tried running Win Update diagnostics, but that didn't help.

 

Chrome is functional but slow (I am posting from the black screen right now).

 

This all started because Windows said it couldn't install the Intel Graphics update and that clicking the error message would help fix the issue. Everything was working fine as long as I just ignored the Intel error. Now trying to address it has broken the display.
