HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (794H8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased this laptop for my birthday in October 2024 and all I do is use it to write novels and short stories. In June it started flashing a blue screen and said HP was collecting data and it needed to restart. I didn't think it was a problem until it kept happening and now the warranty expired June 25. I did a factory reset, which was huge mistake because it will not even stay on long enough for me to set it up after the reset. I try to scan the code to see what's needed to repair it, but it will not remain on the screen long enough for me to even open my phone.

It's a real shame that a Bic lighter lasts longer than a HP laptop. I purchased HP because they had a good reputation, but I guess those days are over as this computer is completely useless. HP should be ashamed of themselves and their product.

Hi @WillyNoel,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We're very sorry to hear about the ongoing issues with your HP 15.6-inch Laptop PC 15-fd0000 (794H8AV), and we understand how frustrating it must be, especially since this device was purchased for a personal milestone like your birthday.

Please note that your HP laptop includes a standard 12-month limited warranty from the date of purchase. Since you mentioned purchasing it in October 2024, the warranty should typically extend through August 2025, unless registered or activated differently.

However, your system currently shows the warranty as expired on June 25, 2025, which may indicate that the product was purchased earlier than registered, or the warranty was not updated properly.

Based on what you've described, it sounds like you're experiencing a critical hardware or firmware failure, especially since:

  • It blue screens repeatedly
  • The factory reset made things worse
  • It won’t stay on long enough to complete the setup
  • The warranty expired just weeks ago

Let’s go through a few things you can try, and then I’ll explain your options even if the warranty has expired.

1. Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Unplug the charger and remove any USB devices.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Plug the charger back in and try powering it on.

2. Access HP Diagnostics

  1. Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc repeatedly, then press F2.
  2. If it loads, run the System Test > Extensive Test.

If it shuts down before you can do this, it’s likely a hardware issue (possibly motherboard, RAM, or SSD).

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
