HP Recommended

Hi everyone,

This morning my HP Pavilion 16-inch Laptop PC 16-ag0000 (955U1AV) displayed the error “Boot Device Not Found (3F0)” when I tried to start it.

The laptop had been in standby mode overnight. The day before, it was working normally and I was only browsing the web and using Microsoft Office applications. There have been no recent hardware changes, software installations, BIOS updates, or other modifications.

I ran the HP UEFI diagnostics. All tests passed except the storage test. Both Hard Drive/SSD and Storage Test (Flash) come back with „no Hard Drive installed“.

I also resetted the BIOS to Standard settings, with no Effect

Based on this, I assume that the SSD/HDD is no longer being recognized by the system?

Hi @Lum1x,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that for “Boot Device Not Found (3F0)”, the HP guides say the recommended actions are:

  • Reset BIOS to default settings.

    • Restart the notebook.

    • Press F10 to enter BIOS.

    • Go to Main > Restore defaults.

  • Reseat the drive:

    • HP states that a storage drive connection issue can cause POST error 3F0 and that reseating the hard drive/SSD is a standard corrective step.

  • Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):

    • Start the PC and press Esc, then F2.

    • Use System Tests and Component Tests to check storage hardware.

  • Disconnect peripherals and perform a hard reset:

    • Remove external devices, unplug AC power, disconnect the battery if possible, then clear residual power before restarting.

  • If the issue persists after a BIOS reset and drive checks:

    • HP indicates the drive might have failed, even if the problem appeared suddenly after standby.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
