HI @KevinHerman,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Boot Device Not Found" error on your HP laptop indicates that the system cannot detect the hard drive where the operating system is installed. This could be due to a few different reasons, including a loose or failed hard drive, BIOS issues, or even a problem with the operating system itself. Here's a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

1. Perform Basic Checks

Restart Your Laptop:

  • Sometimes a simple restart can resolve temporary issues. Power off your laptop completely, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

Check for Error Codes:

  • If you see a specific error code (e.g., 3F0), make a note of it. This code can help identify the problem more precisely.

2. Check Hard Drive Connection

Turn Off and Unplug:

  • Power off your laptop and unplug it from any power source. Remove the battery if it’s removable.

Access Hard Drive:

  • Depending on your laptop model, you may need to remove a panel or access the hard drive bay. Refer to your laptop’s manual for instructions.

Check Connections:

  • Ensure that the hard drive is properly connected. Check the cables and connectors to make sure they are securely attached.

Re-seat the Hard Drive:

  • If it appears loose, carefully remove the hard drive and then reinsert it, ensuring it’s firmly seated in its slot.

Reassemble and Test:

  • Replace the panel or reattach the battery, plug in the laptop, and try to power it on.

3. Run Diagnostics

Use Built-in Diagnostics:

  • Many HP laptops have built-in diagnostics tools. During startup, press the ESC or F2 key repeatedly to enter the diagnostics menu.

Run Hard Drive Test:

  • Select the option to test the hard drive. The diagnostic tool will check for issues and report any problems.

Review Results:

  • If diagnostics indicate a failure, the hard drive might need replacement. If no issues are found, further troubleshooting will be required.

4. Check BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and press the ESC or F10 key (depending on your model) to enter BIOS/UEFI settings.
  • Ensure that the hard drive is listed as a bootable device in the boot order. Adjust the boot priority if necessary.
  • If unsure about settings, you can reset BIOS to default settings and save changes. This can sometimes resolve boot issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
