That message typically means the hard drive has failed.
Pick F2 from the menu that is mentioned or if that does not work, do this to run the Diagnostics routine.
To run the Diagnostics routine, Start tapping the Esc key BEFORE starting the PC and then press the start button.
Keep tapping the Esc key until a popup menu shows. Then pick Diagnostics from that popup menu, F2.
Report back with the results. If that also reports no boot device, then the hard drive needs to be replaced.
Please post the model number of the device so adequate help can be provided.

Thanks
i have 4 options
memory test-done and ok
Hard drive-quick and extensive checks. Both of these show ‘not installed’
i then have Language and exit.
IN F2 I can’t get beyond BIOS admin as I don’t have a password. Have tried entering 3 times as suggested by some but no code shows up.
Thanks

So the F2 test - Hard drive-quick and extensive checks. "Both of these show ‘not installed’" - that would also point to the hard drive failing. Replace the hard drive or install a SATA SSD drive. You will need to reinstall Windows 10, but -
The model number posted - G8S00VA - is not proper as it does not show the HP data base.
Without the model number I cannot see if there is Optaine memory installed or if that model can use the HP Cloud Recovery tool.
Otherwise you can install the latest Windows 10 version by making the install media
If you need the install media for Windows 10, you can make it from this Microsoft download
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
With a working PC, scroll down to the "Using the tool to create installation media"
and then follow the directions. You can make either the DVD or USB. Use this new media to install Windows 10.
When the install asks for the product key, click the "I don't have a product key" option to continue,
then the install will continue. It will be activated once it connects to the internet, as it uses a digital key.

Without the model number - at least for now, leaves the Microsoft Media Creation Tool for Windows 10 media ( link posted previous post above ). That media is pretty good in finding drivers, etc. Most likely good enough to get the unit at least running after replacement of the hard drive.
Once the PC is running, you can then come to the HP Support and let it detect the device by clicking on the "Or let HP detect your product" button and let it find the info through the routine. Then it will take you to the support pages for that PC, where you can find any missing drivers and/manuals etc.
