Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, the issue started when I realized I needed a new battery for my laptop. I get that because I perpetually kept it plugged to the wall and the total battery capacity drained much faster. So much so that I couldn’t unplug it for more than 30 minutes without it dying on me regardless of what the digital battery life said. I ordered a new battery and replaced it and tried to start up my computer again. Only, the computer cannot find a hard drive to boot up on my computer. It’s weird because I didn’t touch my hard drive in anyway while replacing the battery. I might need a replacement on that or some other components on this PC, which is fine, but I would like to save what I have stored on here first before jumping to the nuclear option. Please help. Thank you.

Hi @Jamesthomps45,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

"Boot device not found" is an error message that usually indicates that your computer's operating system cannot be found. This can occur due to a variety of reasons such as a corrupted operating system, a faulty hard drive, or incorrect boot order settings.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue.

  • Check the boot order in the BIOS: Restart your computer and press the key to access the BIOS setup utility (usually F2, F10, or Del). Check that the boot order is correct and that the hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
  • Check for loose cables: Ensure that all cables connecting the hard drive and motherboard are securely connected.
  • Use the Windows recovery environment: If you have a Windows installation disc or USB drive, you can use it to access the Windows recovery environment and repair any issues with the operating system.
  • Check the hard drive: Use a hard drive diagnostic tool to check if the hard drive is working correctly. If the hard drive is faulty, you may need to replace it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
