Hi @Gauravnegi03

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m sorry to hear you’re facing this frustrating “Boot device not found” error. It can be unsettling when your laptop won’t start as expected, but there are clear steps you can take to work toward a solution.

What This Message Means

Your laptop is currently unable to locate a device (usually the hard drive or SSD) with a valid operating system to start from. This could be caused by a hardware issue, a BIOS setting, or corruption in the bootloader.

Steps to Troubleshoot and Resolve

Check BIOS Settings

Restart the laptop and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly (or F10 on some models) to enter the BIOS setup.

Navigate to the Boot Options or Boot Order menu.

Ensure your hard drive or SSD is listed as the first boot device.

If the hard drive is missing or not detected, this could indicate a hardware connection issue or failure.

Save any changes and exit.

Run Hard Drive Test

Within the BIOS or on startup, press Esc or F2 to enter diagnostics.

Select the hard drive test to check for errors.

If the test fails, it may indicate the hard drive needs to be replaced.

Reset BIOS to Default

In BIOS, find the option to Restore Defaults or Reset BIOS Settings.

Save and exit, then restart the laptop to see if the boot issue resolves.

Repair or Reinstall the Operating System

If the hard drive is detected and passes tests, the bootloader or OS might be corrupted.

You can use a Windows recovery USB to attempt repairs:

Create a bootable USB with Windows installation media using Microsoft’s official tool.

Boot from the USB, select Repair your computer, then try Startup Repair.

If repair fails, you may need to reinstall Windows.

Check Hardware Connections

If comfortable, you might carefully open the laptop to check the hard drive or SSD connection is secure.

Otherwise, seek professional assistance.
