Hi @HadidGH

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I’m really sorry you’re facing this—it’s unsettling when your system won’t start, especially if everything was working fine before.

The “Boot Device Not Found” error means your laptop can’t detect the drive that holds Windows. This could be due to a loose connection, corrupted boot files, or a failed hard drive.

Let’s walk through steps to diagnose and fix it.

Step-by-step actions to resolve “Boot Device Not Found” error

Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Esc repeatedly as you power it on, then press F2 to enter diagnostics.
  • Run the Hard Drive Test to check if the disk is physically detected and functioning.
  • If the test fails, the drive may need replacement.

Check BIOS boot settings

  • Restart and press Esc > F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Go to System Configuration > Boot Options
  • Ensure Legacy Support is disabled and UEFI Boot Order includes your internal drive.
  • Save changes and exit.

Reset BIOS to default

  • In BIOS, press F9 to load defaults, then F10 to save and exit.
  • This can restore boot settings if they were changed or corrupted.

Reconnect or reseat the storage drive

  • If you’re comfortable opening the laptop, disconnect and reconnect the SSD or HDD.
  • For NVMe SSDs, ensure the drive is fully seated in its slot.

Use recovery media to repair boot files

  • If the drive passes diagnostics but Windows won’t load, use a bootable USB to access recovery tools.
  • Select Startup Repair or use Command Prompt to run:
    bootrec /fixmbr
    bootrec /fixboot
    bootrec /scanos
    bootrec /rebuildbcd

If diagnostics show “No drive found” or the BIOS doesn’t list your storage device, the SSD/HDD may have failed or become disconnected. In that case, replacing the drive and reinstalling Windows is the next step.

Let me know what the diagnostics reveal—I’ll guide you through recovery or replacement based on what we find. You’re doing everything right by tackling this early.
