Hi @Ppaze,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially when you're met with a blue screen and then the dreaded “Boot Device Not Found” message on HP Pavilion 15-cs3xx. It can feel like your laptop has just given up on you, but don’t worry, there’s still hope, and I’ll walk you through the HP steps to try and recover it.

Step-by-Step Fix (HP Official Guidance)

1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2)

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Press the power button, then immediately press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  3. Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Run the Hard Drive Test.

If the test fails, your drive may be damaged or disconnected. If it passes, continue below.

2. Check BIOS Boot Order (F10)

  1. Restart and press Esc, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  2. Go to System Configuration > Boot Options.
  3. Ensure your internal hard drive/SSD is listed as the first boot device.
  4. Press F10 to save and exit.

3. Use HP Recovery (F11)

If the drive is detected:

  1. Restart and press Esc, then F11 to launch HP Recovery Environment.
  2. Try System Restore or Startup Repair.

If F11 doesn’t work, or recovery fails, you’ll need to reinstall Windows.

Reinstall Windows (If Recovery Fails)

You can create a bootable USB using another PC:

  1. Download HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support.
  2. Use it to create a bootable USB (at least 32GB).
  3. Insert it into your HP laptop and boot from USB (press Esc > F9 to select boot device).
  4. Choose Custom Install and reinstall Windows.

⚠️ Note: This will erase your data unless you back it up first using a Linux Live USB or external enclosure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I did end up having to reinstall windows how ever every time I switch off my laptop I’m led to do the same thing over again when I turn it on. How do I stop this?

Hi @Ppaze,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know. I request you to please run the hardware diagnostics test on your PC and share the results with me. Once we have that information, we can proceed to find the right solution for you.

Extensive Test -

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Hi @Ppaze,

That’s great to hear! We’re really glad your system is back to working properly again.

Running DISM and checking the Device Manager are excellent troubleshooting steps; they help repair system files and ensure all hardware drivers are functioning correctly. Even if the details felt a bit technical, you definitely handled it the right way! 👍🏾

If the issue stays resolved, you’re all set. But if anything reappears, please keep us posted.

Take care and have an amazing day!
