Hey!

Iam using HP ENVY x360 14-fa0023dx laptop running the latest windows 11 that came original with the laptop itself (dont know the exact build after updates). Today I was browsing the internet and  out of nowhere i got a black screen for a few seconds that stated something similar to blue screen of death (it was for a brief moment so i dont remember exactly what it told). After that i could not boot my device at all. All i could see was "boot device not found". I have scavenged through reddit and YouTube videos. I have run all the diagnostic tests 2.3.8.0 ( all tests passed). Opened the BIOS tried disabling TPM, SECURE BOOT, loading default BIOS settings, rebooting 3 times, pressing the power button + f6 for 30 seconds but no avail. I was able to make the laptop boot by using the bootable USB. I tried to repair the windows, UEFI firmware, uninstall updates but nothing worked and it only displayed error. I want to make sure to try all  possible solution before i opt for fresh Windows installation. What is wrong with my laptop ? Is my SSD dead ( long DST: passed) ? I need help ASAP. BTW my laptop is still under the warranty it has only been 11 months.

Hi @SakulRai,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

If you're experiencing a "Boot Device Not Found" error on your HP ENVY x360 14-fa0023dx laptop running Windows 11, there are several troubleshooting steps you can attempt to resolve the issue:

Check Boot Order in BIOS:

  • Restart your laptop and press the F10 key repeatedly as it powers on to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.
  • Navigate to the Boot Options, and ensure that your hard drive/SSD is listed as the first boot device.
  • Save changes and exit the BIOS.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Shut down the laptop completely.
  • Disconnect all peripherals (e.g., USB drives, external hard drives).
  • Unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery if possible.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then power on the laptop.

Run HP Diagnostics:

  • Restart your laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly as it starts to enter the HP Diagnostics.
  • Run a comprehensive test for the hard drive/SSD to check for any issues.

Repair Windows:

  • If the above steps do not work, consider using Windows Recovery Environment to perform a startup repair.
  • Access the recovery options by booting from a Windows installation media or recovery drive and selecting "Repair your computer."

I hope this helps, Please revert if the persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
