Hi @Cris_56-26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP computer shows “Boot device not found”, it means the system cannot detect a drive with a valid operating system. This can happen due to incorrect BIOS settings, a loose or failed storage drive, or corrupted boot files. Here’s how to fix it:

Step 1: Power Cycle

  • Turn off the computer completely.
  • Disconnect power for 30 seconds, then restart.

Step 2: Check Boot Order in BIOS

  1. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. Go to System Configuration → Boot Options.
  3. Ensure your hard drive or SSD is listed as the first boot device.
  4. If it’s missing, the drive may not be detected (hardware issue).

 Step 3: Run HP Diagnostics

  • From the BIOS menu, select Diagnostics → Hard Drive Test.
  • If the test fails, the drive may need replacement.

Step 4: Reset BIOS Defaults

  • In BIOS, choose Restore Defaults or Load Setup Defaults.
  • Save and exit.

Step 5: Repair Boot Files

If the drive passes diagnostics but Windows won’t load:

  • Create a Windows Recovery USB (from another PC).
  • Boot from the USB → choose Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Startup Repair.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
