My laptop is not showing the screen properly and is unable to start. I believe the operating system may be corrupted. When I try to turn it on, it shows a message asking me to reboot the OS and reinstall it. I am not able to access the desktop or recover any files. I need immediate help to diagnose the issue and recover or reinstall the operating system. Please guide me with the correct steps or provide support for system recovery.

Hi @Somu01,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop is experiencing a boot failure and appears to have a corrupted operating system, here is a step-by-step guide to help you diagnose the issue and reinstall the operating system.

1: Backup Important Data

If the laptop is not booting properly, it's advisable to back up important data first, if accessible. You can use a bootable USB drive with a Linux distribution or a recovery tool to access files and back them up to an external drive, if possible.

2: Create a Bootable Windows USB Drive

To reinstall the operating system, you'll need a Windows installation media:

  1. Download Windows Creation Tool: Go to the Microsoft Windows 10 download page and download the Media Creation Tool.
  2. Create USB Bootable Drive:
    • Open the tool and select "Create installation media for another PC."
    • Choose the appropriate language, edition, and architecture (64-bit).
    • Insert a USB flash drive (minimum of 8GB) and select it when prompted by the tool to create a bootable USB drive.

3: Boot from USB Drive

  1. Insert USB: Plug the bootable USB drive into the laptop.
  2. Enter BIOS/Boot Menu:
    • Turn on the laptop and immediately press Esc, F9, or another function key (depending on your model) to access the Boot Menu or BIOS settings.
    • Select the USB Drive as the primary boot device and save changes.
  3. Restart Laptop: The laptop should now boot from the USB drive.

4: Reinstall Windows

  1. Follow On-screen Instructions: Once you boot from the USB drive, you will see the Windows Setup screen.
  2. Custom Installation: Choose the option to install a new copy of Windows. This process will format your existing partition and install Windows anew.
  3. Partition: If prompted, you can select the existing Windows partition (usually Drive C:) to install the operating system.

5: Install Drivers and Updates

  1. After installation, ensure Windows Update is enabled to automatically install necessary drivers.
  2. Visit the HP Support website and enter your model number to download any additional drivers that may be needed.

6: Restore Data

If you backed up your data, you can now transfer it back to your laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
