Hi from Denver!

I have an HP 15–da0032wm [just purchased via Messenger-Marketplace],

ran a Diagnostic Test:

MEMORY TEST:   Passed.      Internet Connection —. Verizon. —  all good!

STORAGE TEST:  FAILED:  ‘NO DISC CONNECTED TO SYSTEM.’

’No Boot Device found.’

ADD:  HP 15.6” Silver Laptop [Fully Reset] — Windows 11. |. Intel i3. |. 1 TB HDD

ADD. —  INFO:     Seller’s claim:  ‘it’s not a HD issue; it’s a software issue’ confuses me!

Question:  what, may I ask the HP Community, is the best approach to:

1 - Evaluate if HP has a HD — is it disconnected?  If so:  then what?  Take it to a Shop:

Same price I paid to see what’s wrong [$100.0].

2 - Install new HD?

Thank-you all:  I very much appreciate your responses, etc. per this issue.

All the best,

Thomas Brown

Hi:

Below is the link to the parts list for your notebook.

HP PartSurfer

It comes with a 1 TB 2.5" mechanical hard drive and a 16 GB Intel Optane M.2 2280 memory module that accelerates the hard drive for better performance.

I think it is a hardware issue, and the easiest thing to do to confirm that would be to use another PC and use the Microsoft media creation tool to make a bootable W11 installation flash drive and try to reinstall Windows.

Download Windows 11

Make sure you select the 1 TB drive to install it on because the 16 GB Optane memory device will also show up as a storage drive.

If you can't install Windows, you have two options:

1. Remove the 2.5" drive, remove the M.2 2280 SATA drive and install a M.2 NVMe solid state drive.

If you don't need 1 TB of storage, you can go with a 500 GB drive.

The costs of 2.5" SATA and M.2 solid state drives has skyrocketed due to the AI demand for memory chips.

If you feel comfortable removing the bottom cover, that is the hard part of the installation process.

Below is the link to the service manual which has the hard drive/M.2 SSD removal and replacement procedure.
