HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 (54J84AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I've had my HP laptop for over a year now and have had issues with the charging port and the built-in keyboard. Whenever my laptop is plugged in and charging, the keyboard turns off and doesn't respond. My laptop's keyboard backlights also turn off when it is plugged in. My laptop does sound like it's overheating but I still don't understand what the problem is. It's been like this when I first got this laptop and thought I could figure it out but I've found no solution. I've installed keyboard drivers, run keyboard tests, did diagnostic tests through HP support, and tried following some forums. I don't know if it's a problem with the motherboard or if it's with the charging port but if there is a solution, I'd appreciate it. It sucks trying to finish work for classes and being unable to use my laptop while my laptop is charging.

Hi @katmkay ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Unfortunately, you're experiencing issues with your HP Envy X360 laptop. Several factors could contribute to the problem, and it might require a combination of troubleshooting steps to identify and fix the issue.

1. Update Drivers:

Ensure that all your drivers, including keyboard and chipset drivers, are up to date. You can check for updates through the Device Manager in Windows 11.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  2. Locate the keyboard and chipset drivers, right-click, and select "Update driver."

2. BIOS Update:

Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop. BIOS updates sometimes address hardware compatibility issues.

3. Power Settings:

  1. Open the Power & sleep settings.
  2. Click on "Additional power settings."
  3. Choose the power plan you are using and click on "Change plan settings."
  4. Click on "Change advanced power settings."
  5. Look for USB settings and make sure "USB selective suspend setting" is set to "Disabled."

4. Battery/Power Options:

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Go to "Hardware and Sound" and then "Power Options."
  3. Select your current power plan and click on "Change plan settings."
  4. Click on "Change advanced power settings."
  5. Expand the "Processor power management" section and make sure "System cooling policy" is set to "Active."

5. Update Windows:

Ensure that your Windows 11 operating system is up to date with the latest updates.

6. HP Support Assistant:

Run the HP Support Assistant to check for updates and perform system diagnostics.

7. Hardware Check:

If the issue persists, there might be a hardware problem.

8. Check for Overheating:

Use software tools to monitor your laptop's temperature. Overheating can sometimes cause unexpected behavior. If temperatures are high, consider cleaning the laptop's cooling system or using a cooling pad.

9. External Devices:

Disconnect all external devices (except the charger) and see if the issue persists.

10. Reset Power Settings:

Reset power settings to default and see if it resolves the issue.

11. Check Charger:

Try using a different charger to see if the issue persists. A faulty charger or charging port could be the culprit.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.-

If your laptop charges with the power adapter plugged in, the power adapter, or charger, is OK and the charger port is also OK.

Your laptop is capable being charged by use of either of the two  USB Type-C sleep & Charge ports . Have you tried both of them?

You description of the issue sounds more like a system board issue.

There is a power/charge circuit on the system board which charges the battery and provides power to the laptop with the power adapter plugged into the power adapter port .

Is your laptop still in warranty?
