HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-b109wm Sleekbook

My first question I posted yesterday was apparently not allowed, so I'll try wording this differently.  I cleared my laptop in December because I'd transferred everything to a desktop.  Recently my college-age daughter needed the laptop to use; however, upon booting up, it has my current email address but no password that I previously used or have recently changed it to, will let her log in.  We've tried resetting it from info found on YouTube but it always comes back to the same issue and she's unable to log in.  It will only display my email, therefore, she cannot use her Microsoft account to log in.  I've read and researched so much to no avail, that I  am ready to set the thing ablaze and be done with it.  I don't understand how it still has a user name and password at log in but has been reset after I transferred my data.  Is this laptop useless now?
