My laptop will not update Windows 10.  It is stuck on version 1803.  I have tried at least 10 times.  I have trouble shot this for three days without success.  Is there an internal block on windows updates in this laptop?

@GunstonB

Please provide details on HOW you attempted the Upgrades.

I have used the Automatic Update features in Win 10.  I have checked for updates, then allowed it to try to update.  The update downloads, starts installing, then I get a message the update failed.  I have also tried several remedies outlined on YouTube without success.  I have run the Update troubleshooter, applied the fix and still no upgrade.  Performed a  disk image and then attempted top reinstall Windows keeping Apps and Data and installation failed.  Troubleshooter then said Windows Database is corrupted.  Will create a new Media Creation Disk and retry.   Any other ideas?

@GunstonB

Looks like you already covered all the bases -- as doing an in-place Upgrade using Win10 media would normally be the next step -- which it looks like you already tried.

I tried another in-place instal and it failed t 69%.  It has to be an HP-related reason.  All my other computers update fine.  Guess I'll just stay with 1803.  Thanks for your interest.

Additional information on attempting to update Windows 10 on my Pavilion dv7.

Spent over an hour talking with Microsoft tech support and we tried numerous attempts to get the dv7 to update past 1803.

Some of the steps we tried are:

Run DISM tool
Run System File Checker
Run Windows Update troubleshooter  Applied the fix.
Reset Windows Update components
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver
Perform a Clean boot

Applied ALL steps listed and attempted another update. Failed at 83% with Error 0xc1420121.

Attempted another in place repair install and it too failed at just past 83%.   Microsoft was unable to get the updates to install and concluded there is a conflict with Windows 10 1903 and the hardware/drivers on my dv7.  My dv7 is probably 7 years old.  BIOS are HP Bios F.18 10/5/2011.  BTW - A new glitch.  On startup it is impossible to access BIOS setup my hitting ESC.   Request is ignored and systems boots into Windows after four minutes plus.

This error is persistent and no solutions I've found will allow my get an update past 1803. Guess I'll have to stay with 1803 forever.

Is HP going to do something about this? There is nothing wrong with this laptop, except that HP won't bother to update some drivers for it's customers. Take an afternoon and do a few updates. I'm tired of having my laptop make a mandatory feeble attempt to run an update that I know will fail. Every time there is a major update, HP whines about updating older drivers. Suck it up and get it done.

Peggy,

HP does not care about us that have older laptops..  We're stuck with 1803 forever!  Sorry situation with HP.  At least it still runs
