Hi, I have a Ryzen 5 2400GE Elitedesk mini 705 G4 but the board itself is on its last legs (Sata port cable busted, front panel dying etc) and I need a replacement barebones. There are plenty 705 G5 systems online which support 3000 series but I cannot find anywhere if it will support my 2nd gen Ryzen CPU. This is from both the Chipset and the HP digital manual for the G5. Would help to know so I don’t have to spend £45 on a new CPU. Cheers :))

Hi:

According to the HP Quickspecs for the model series at the link below, the Ryzen 5 2400GE processor would not be supported.  See page 8.

This user benchmarking site shows no one has tried to install the Ryzen 5 2400GE in the model series, so there is no data.

I guess you can try it and see what happens, and if it doesn't work, then you can buy a supported processor.

The benefit to installing a supported processor is you can install W11 and have continued OS support if you are running Windows on the PC.

If you are running windows, make sure you buy a motherboard with a Windows product key in the BIOS.
