HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba037ns

I have a HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba037ns laptop. With a RAM supplement, I have increased the RAM to 12G. I have reinstalled Windows 10 home, version 22H2. But the CPU gives me only 0.38 GHZ, when the capacity is 2.4 GHz. I have searched on the internet for solutions, I have tried several, such as updating the BIOS and disconnecting the battery for 60 s. to do a hard reset, but the CPU is still going very slow, at 0.38 GHZ. Does anyone know how to solve this CPU problem?

1. Check Power Settings (High Performance Mode)

Windows might be limiting your CPU performance to save power, especially if it's set to Power Saver or Balanced mode.

Open Power Options:

  1. Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options.
  2. If it's not already set to High Performance, click on Show additional plans and select High Performance. This setting should allow your CPU to run at its full speed when needed.

Check Advanced Power Settings:

  1. Click on Change plan settings next to High Performance.
  2. Then click on Change advanced power settings.
  3. Expand Processor power management and set Minimum processor state to 100% and Maximum processor state to 100%.

2. Check for Overheating or Thermal Throttling

Your CPU might be throttling to lower speeds to prevent overheating.

Monitor CPU Temperature. 

Clean the Laptop: If the temperatures are too high, clean the cooling fan and vents with compressed air to improve airflow and cooling.

Ensure Proper Cooling:

  • Keep the laptop on a flat surface to allow proper airflow.
  • Consider using a laptop cooling pad if you're experiencing high temperatures.

3. Reset BIOS Settings

  • Enter BIOS:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Press Esc or F10 repeatedly while turning the laptop on to enter the BIOS.
  • Restore Default Settings: In the BIOS, look for an option to Restore Defaults or Load Optimized Defaults. This will reset any custom settings, including power settings that might be limiting your CPU performance.

4. Update CPU Drivers

Update Chipset Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest chipset drivers for your laptop.
  • You can also check for Windows Updates to ensure your system has the latest drivers.

Update Power Management Drivers:

  • Ensure that the Intel Power Management drivers (or AMD, depending on your processor) are up to date.

5. Check for Background Processes and Malware

Task Manager:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager and check which processes are using the CPU heavily. Close any unnecessary programs.

Run Malware Scan:

  • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or a third-party antivirus program to rule out malware.

6. Disable CPU Throttling in the Registry (Optional)

  1. Press Windows + R and type regedit to open the Registry Editor.
  2. Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power
  3. Find the CStates setting and check if it is enabled or disabled.
  4. If it's enabled, you can try disabling it by right-clicking on it and changing the value.

(Note: Modifying the registry can be risky, so proceed with caution and consider backing up the registry first.)

7. Test with a Single RAM Stick

  • Test with Only the Original RAM: Try running the laptop with just the original RAM installed and see if the CPU speed returns to normal. This can help identify if the new RAM is causing the issue.

8. Run Hardware Diagnostics

If the problem persists, it could be a hardware issue.

The problem was solved and the CPU is back to normal (2.4 GHz). The solution was to use only the original RAM, placing it in the corresponding socket (there are two). Once this was done, the CPU is back to normal. Thank you very much! ¡Muchísimas gracias!
