Microsoft Windows 11

Hi

When I bought my laptop the camera was working, I think it stopped working when windows 11 was installed. Because I had a works laptop I have not used this on for a long time. Please can someone tell me how to get it working again, all the permissions are on.

Thanks

Gary

@Gary_D2, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check for Camera in Device Manager

Press Windows + X > select Device Manager.

Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras:

Do you see your camera listed? It might be listed as:

Integrated Camera

USB2.0 HD UVC Webcam

Or under Unknown devices (yellow warning icon)

👉 If it's missing, go to Step 3.

Update or Roll Back the Camera Driver

Right-click the camera > Properties > Driver tab.

Try:

Update Driver > “Search automatically for drivers”.

If no update works, try Roll Back Driver (if available).

If neither works, uninstall the device, then restart your PC. Windows will reinstall it automatically.

Manually Reinstall Camera Driver

Windows 11 sometimes replaces working drivers with generic ones. Go to Official HP® Drivers and Software Download | HP® Support and search for your exact model number, then:

Download the latest camera or webcam driver for Windows 11.

Install and restart.

Run the Windows Camera Troubleshooter

Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters

Find Camera and click Run

Check Windows Privacy Settings

Even though you mentioned permissions are on, double-check this just in case a Windows update toggled something off:

Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera

Make sure:

Camera access is On

Let apps access your camera is On

Scroll down and make sure your app (Camera, Zoom, Teams, etc.) is also allowed.

Also, refer to this guide: HP PCs - Troubleshoot the webcam (Windows 11 and Windows 10) | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
