HP Elitebook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

A friend of mine discovered this laptop about 4 or 5 months ago. It had been left behind on one of the local trains in town. We have attempted, on numerious occasions, to find the proper owner but have not succeeded. After searching high & low and waiting an appropriate amount of time we feel that the laptop is in his ownership now. The past few days we have tried to unlock the computer without success. As a last resort, I am wondering if there is any possible way to locate the Recovery Key using the laptop's serial number? If anyone out there knows anyway of establishing the recovery key, or really anything at all that will help, please let us know. Any thoughts, ideas or comments are greatly appreciated at this point. Thank you for your time.

I have no idea what you mean by "recovery key" -- but if you're asking for something like a password, then we can not help you.

I'm really sorry that we can not help you with this, but Community policy prohibits us from assisting you in any way with bypassing or resetting passwords.

For BIOS or power-on password resets, read this HP thread: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06368824.

If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard for BIOS password resets, you could take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do it for you -- but we are unable to assist in that.

For Admin password resets, you have to contact your regional HP Customer Support location directly for assistance.
