I have spent the past two weeks trying to do a clean install after a relative had his fan stop working and the motherboard caught on fire due to carpet dander clogging the fan.
I went and purchased a replacement motherboard dismantled the laptop and removed burnt motherboard and replaced it with a exact motherboard replacement DA0LX6MB6H1. The only difference I can see is that my old m/b is Rev H and the replacement is Rev I.
I purchased 2 - 4GB Ram Sticks and installed them.
I also wiped clean a 640 GB SATA hard drive and am using that as the new hard drive.
It seems no matter what I do the system starts to load windows a progress bar appears at the bottom of the screen goes all the way across ... the Windows Screen appears for a second or two and then the screen goes black and the process starts all over.
What I have tried .
- I have tried to use the DVD/CD drive with Windows 7 Ultimate ISO but same thing as above ...
- I have tried to use a USB Drive with Windows 7 Ultimate ISO .. same thing as above ...
- I tried using Rufus and was able to get computer to boot into DOS ... but didn't go beyond that ...
- I have tried booting into Windows Safe Mode ... No success
- i have tried not restarting after error ... No success
i have tried multiple options after hitting F8 but nothing seems to change the behavior ...
My next test will be to try to update the bios ... but the HP Website seems to be down for maintenance this week as I am trying to get to my product page and it just keeps timing out ...
Any ideas tips ... I have spent about $100 getting to this point and I know this is an old computer so it is not worth throwing more money at it if I am unsure that the solution will definitely work ...

Hi
Take Microsoft out of the equation, and substitute (temporarily) this....
It should boot and run and not install but run 'LIVE'.

If I was desperate, and I could use Lubuntu or W7 then I would want to make a small partition at the back of the HDD and install the contents of the DVD/USB there. Call it X:
Then log to it and run setup.exe
Much like this:--- X:\>dir
Volume in drive X is Recovery

Perhaps not the Ultimate ISO ???
Does it have one of these?
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).
BIOS and HDD are compatible?
Legacy/MBR or Secure/GPT formatting.
If in doubt please ask.
