When using my hp 2000 notebook, I am unable to click drop down menus, and when I do, the menu just flashes on/off really quickly making it impossible to click on any menu choices. When I try to choose anything from something like file explorer, before I can click on anything, the list scrolls down really quick before I can click, and when I try to click the arrows on the side of a menu that let you choose something to click, it doesn't stay in position; it scrolls down, and I can't click on anything at the top of the list. The same thing happens when I try to use the touch pad. What can I do to remedy this? Thanks

Hi @kk_54,
Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand that you have issues with scrolling on your notebook. I will be more than glad to assist you with this.
Stupendous description and spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a very important HP customer and it is paramount to assist you. I also take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
For better clarity, I would require more information regarding this to assist you better.
- When did the issue begin? Did it happen after a windows 10 or software update?
- Do you remember?
For now please try all the prescribed steps mentioned in this link: HP Notebook PCs - Using the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 10)
HP Notebook PCs - Using and Configuring the TouchPad (Windows 7 and Vista) to try and fix the issue.
- Common TouchPad gestures
- Opening the ClickPad properties
- Opening the Touchpad properties
- Button clicking using a TouchPad or ClickPad
- Scrolling using a TouchPad or ClickPad
- Navigating using multi-finger gestures
- Adjusting TouchPad or ClickPad pointing sensitivities
- Preventing accidental clicks (mouse cursor moves while typing)
- Turning all TouchPad gestures off and on
- Troubleshooting when the TouchPad does not work
- Updating the driver through Windows Update
This should correct the issue if there are no hardware failures. If it continues to do the same thing, try to connect an external USB mouse and check if the scroll it works correctly. If the external mouse works fine then the computer has a touchpad related hardware issue and needs to be serviced by contacting
HP phone support. Before that please backup all your files and perform a system recovery to factory settings from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-15-Notebook-PC-series/10862158/model/11954952/docume... and follow the option “Recovery when Windows 10 does not start correctly” and check again if the touchpad works. If it does not please contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced.
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.
They will be happy to assist you immediately.
If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.
