Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I’ve been constantly stuck in a loop with a windows update. I’ve had this previously and managed to get the laptop booted up and working again but not this time.

I’ve followed the advice on a few of the forums on here and I’m getting nowhere. I tried system recovery but got a “Your PC/Device needs to be repaired” screen.

Can someone help with this? Or is it a case of buying a new laptop?

Thanks

First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.
Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat

Power on your PC, press Esc (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

If in doubt please ask.

Hi,

It could be a problem with the hard drive. So, first try running diagnostics on the drive and system. Turn off the PC by holding the power button. Turn on PC and continouslypress ESC until startup menu appears. Next, press F2 to enter diagnostics and perform the fast test (or at least the hard drive test).

Let me know if there are any failure codes.

Regards,

David

Hi, I’ve done that and it passed all the checks, where do I go next? Thanks for the advice so far

I would perform a clean install of Windows 10 on the notebook. You will need another computer to download the media creation tool and create a bootable pendrive. Here is a small guide.

Download media creation tool from Microsoft on PC (different PC), run and create a bootable pendrive with the OS on it. (there is an explanation on the Microsoft web page on how to create the pendrive). Create the drive with Windows 10 Home 64-bit edition. Windows will automatically activate once installed and connected to the Internet.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Replace the drive.

If you choose this option you will need to use the pendrive to perform a clean install of Windows 10. You might need to disable fastboot and secure boot in BIOS (probably not). So, insert the pendrive in the PC and it should boot directly from the drive. If not, turn off the PC by holding the power button. Press the power button and immediately keep pressing ESC until the startup menu appears and then press F9 and choose the pendrive in the boot menu. Once it boots from pendrive follow the procedure to install Windows. Choose Custom install and delete all partitions. Install on unallocated space.

When finished installing allow Windows to completely update and find all or most drivers. You can follow this process by going into settings > Security and update > click on Verify for updates. You might need to reboot a couple of times.

I recommend installing HP support assistant which will help keep your drivers up to date and much more. You can download the latest version from here.

Once completely updated you can go into device manager and see if there are any missing drivers (there will be yellow exclamation mark next to the device). You can find these drivers and software on the HP support page for your product.

Hope it helps,

Sorry I’m not particularly techy and some of that makes no sense to me. I’ve no idea what a Pen drive is and when you’re talking about disabling stuff I’d struggle as well as I cannot access my laptop to change settings etc.

I’d also struggle to get on to another computer, my work one wouldn’t let me do any of that.

any other advice?

thanks
