Spectre x360 15-CH000
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I realized Windows Update had not been upgrading my OS release, and I was still running on 1803.  (Windows 10 Pro, build 17134.706, installed 12/4/18.)  I ran Update and it had 3 updates:  the 2019-02 update to Windows (KB4346084), and two 1809 updates.  The 2019-02 update ran OK.

The two 1809 updates failed.  In particular, the one that Update wanted to install today was "version 1809 amd64 2019-04 (5)".  Why is it trying to install an amd64 update on my Intel i7-8705G laptop !?

The other 1809 update says it failed on 12/22/18 - 0xc19001e1.  Not sure why it failed or why it hasn't tried since.

Currently Update says it "found some issues."  If I tell it to fix issues, it initializes the (bogus?) AMD update, then says "Windows 10 couldn't be installed."

I'm not sure where to start...

@garyfritz

I wish I had an answer for you regarding failing Windows Updates -- but quality control seems to have hit bottom at MS, and they have now a history of serious problems with WUs related to v1809.

My suggestion is rather than fool around with 1809, wait a few weeks until 1903 comes out, make an ISO file of that using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool (MCT), and use that to do an in-place Upgrade from 1803 to 1903.

And just before you do that, please take my advice and follow the instructions below to make an Image backup of your PC, that way, if the Upgrade fails, you will have something recent to restore FROM:

------------------------

I personally prefer to use third-party Backup solutions as they tend to be both more flexible and more reliable than any built-in solutions.

Macrium Reflect (MR) provides a FREE version that can be used to image and restore partitions or entire drives.

What I recommend is the following:
1) Download and install Macrium Reflect (MR) from here: http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
2) Run MR and choose the option: "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" to write a full backup to an external drive or USB stick
3) Use the option to create a boot USB stick or CD

My experience is that MR, when using the High Compression option, typically can compress the saved image file to about 50% of the USED space in the OS partition. This means if you have an 80GB OS partition, and 40GB is used, MR only needs about 20GB to store the image file.

I use this all the time and it typically takes less than 15 minutes to do the image backup and about the same time or less to do a restore.

Plus, MR has the option to Add a Recovery Boot Menu entry. This allows you then to boot into WinRE, and you can then use that to do a restore -- when you can't boot into Windows!

NOW, you have the means to restore a full working system from the external drive or USB stick in only a few minutes.

OK, I wondered if skipping 1809 would be the best answer -- or if I had to take the system through 1809 before it would let me install 1903.  I'll wait for 1903.

I started using Macrium recently.  I have to say I'm not terribly impressed with the interface on it -- it's a confusing mess to run -- but it does its job.
