Hello all, I recently got my hands on an HP EliteBook 840 G3 with no operating system installed and I'm trying to install Windows 10 into it.

I have a bootable USB with the Windows 10 ISO, created with the Windows Tool, and have used it before, so I know for a fact that it works.

I've previously worked with other HP laptops and computers and noted that you sometimes have to install some drivers for the hard drive to be detected by the Windows installation tool/whole system.

I can't seem to find the hard drive by going into the BIOS, I have also updated the BIOS driver.

I've tried installing the drivers found under the official HP driver download page - Driver-Storage/Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver, unzipping the exe, placing it in the bootable USB, and trying to install the necessary driver. Still, nothing seems to work, and I'm stuck.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!!!

Fixed it, sometimes the solutions are right in front of your eyes and you omit them until the last moment. After opening the laptop with a screwdriver, the hard drive was NOT connected as it had no screws holding it in place. Connected it and it's working!

Hi:

That doesn't sound right to me that you can't find the drive listed in the BIOS.

That PC should not be needing any storage controller drivers to install W10.

The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if the PC you bought is supported by the HP cloud recovery client utility.

It should be if it originally came with W10 because there should be a W10 product key encrypted in the PC's BIOS.

Here's the link to the software.

You will need to use the utility on another PC since yours is not running and you will need to enter the PC's serial number in the tool's search window.

Here's an info link for how to use the software:
