OMEN Laptop - 17-cb1004nw
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. I have a problem with installing an older version of the bios on my HP OMEN 17 laptop. After I perform a bios recovery from usb, the screen lights up and it stays like that all the time, no bios installation screen or anything. Without a pendrive, the recovery system starts up but installs again the bios version that I already have.

Hi @faillerek

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our notice.

I see that you are facing issues with your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

May I know the reason you are trying to install an older version of the BIOS on your system?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

Could you tell me how did you create the USB for the older BIOS version?

Keep me posted.

Thanks.

- May I know the reason you are trying to install an older version of the BIOS on your system?

- The newest version of bios makes my cpu slower than previous.  The core clocks and wattages are lower, and the permormance droped a lot. That's the reason why I tried to install older version of bios.

- Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

- All is set to deafult settings.

- Could you tell me how did you create the USB for the older BIOS version?

Hi,

Reset the Embedded Controller

In some cases, the computer cannot boot to Windows because the data in the Embedded Controller (EC) is corrupted. Use this procedure to reset the EC.

  1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the power button for 11 seconds.

The computer turns on and the EC is reset.

If this does not recover your computer, see Reset the CMOS.

Reset the CMOS

In some cases, the automatic BIOS recovery fails because the Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) data is corrupted. The CMOS stores BIOS settings. Use this procedure to reset the CMOS and recover the BIOS.

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Press and hold the Windows + V keys, and then simultaneously press and hold the power button. After 2 to 3 seconds, continue to press and hold the Windows + V keys, but release the power button.

  3. When the CMOS Reset screen displays or you hear beeping sounds, release the Windows + V keys.

At the completion of a successful CMOS Reset, a message similar to the following one is displayed.

  4. Press enter to restart the computer.

If this does not recover your computer, see Recover the BIOS.
