I have an HP Stream Notebook - 11-d011wm and it is crashing on bluescreen with the code Oxc000001. The recovery mode is also not working. So I decided to install a fresh copy of Windows. From my BIOS set up, I found that I was on Win 8.1.
I downloaded the Windows 8.1 ISO file from Microsoft website. I wasn't sure so I chose 32-bit windows. Also, there were different Windows 8.1 options (Windows 8.1, Windows 8.1 N, Windows 8.1 K and Windows 8.1 Single Language). I downloaded Windows 8.1 and created a bootable USB.
When I started the installation, it immediately asked me to enter the key. I had an assumption that it would take it from BIOS set-up.
Am I missing anything here?

Hi:
Unfortunately, that model came with W8.1 64 bit with Bing, so the best way to reinstall W8.1 with Bing is to purchase the recovery media from HP.
There is a free way to do it according to this link, but you will have to trust the torrent download of the software...
Your notebook has the plain W8.1 x64 with Bing, so the torrent file should work with the key in your notebook's BIOS.

Great response from Paul as always. I was just going to add that after all this time, the notebook may have been upgraded to Windows 10 and you can download that install media from Microsoft. The fact that recovery mode no longer works might also signify that it was upgraded.
My Stream 11 was upgraded to Windows 10 and the BIOS still says "Factory Installed OS Win8.1" if that is what you are referring to.
