Hi Brookie201,

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are facing an issue with you computerr, I am glad to assist you today.

If you’re having trouble resetting your login information on an HP laptop, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you regain access to your system:

1. Reset Your Password Using HP Tools:

For Windows 10/11:

**A. Using Password Reset Disk (if created earlier):

  • Insert the password reset disk into your laptop.
  • On the login screen, select "Reset password" and follow the prompts to reset your password using the disk.

**B. Using Microsoft Account:

  • If your HP laptop uses a Microsoft account, you can reset your password online:
    1. Go to the Microsoft password reset page.
    2. Follow the instructions to verify your identity and create a new password.

**C. Using Local Account Password Reset:

  • On the login screen, click "I forgot my password" or similar options. This option may appear depending on the setup and version of Windows.

**D. Using Safe Mode:

  • Restart your laptop and repeatedly press F8 (or Shift + F8) as it boots to enter Safe Mode.
  • In Safe Mode, you may be able to log in with the built-in Administrator account and change your password from there.

2. Use Recovery Options:

**A. HP Recovery Manager:

  • If you have a recovery partition, you might be able to access it to reset your laptop to factory settings.
  • Restart your laptop and press F11 (or Esc and then F11 on some models) during boot to access HP Recovery Manager.

**B. Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE):

  • If you can't access the login screen, restart your laptop and press F8, Shift + F8, or F11 to enter WinRE.
  • Go to Troubleshoot → Reset this PC. You can choose to keep your files or remove everything.

3. Reset BIOS Password (if applicable):

If you are unable to access the BIOS or UEFI settings due to a BIOS password and you do not know it, you can:

**A. Clear CMOS Battery:

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect it from the power source.
  • Open the laptop (if you're comfortable doing so) and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard. Removing it for a few minutes can sometimes clear the BIOS password.

**B. Contact HP Support:

  • For assistance with BIOS passwords, contacting HP Support is often the best approach. They can guide you through the process of resetting or recovering BIOS passwords.

4. Use HP Support:

**A. HP Support Website:

  • Visit the HP Support website and search for articles or troubleshooting steps related to password recovery.

**B. Contact HP Support:

  • Reach out to HP Support directly. They may require proof of ownership and can provide specific instructions based on your laptop model.
