Hi,
for a while I have been having issues with my envy x360.
It won't seem to shutdown correctly, whenever I try to shutdown (or put it to sleep) it will get stuck in the process, which looks like this:
- Shutdown initiated, screen turns off.
- Power button and keyboard backlight is still on and nothing seems to happen.
- Fan turns on really loud and the laptop gets really(!!!) hot.
- I manually shutdown by pressing and holding the power button until everythings turns off.
So far i have tried a couple things. But none of the following methods have helped.
- disable fast boot
- reset bios to factory settings
- shutting down from CMD
- updating Graphics drivers
- updating bios drivers
- disable fast boot in bios and enabling legacy boot
My laptop has a ryzen 2500u processor with onboard vega graphics, 16GB ram, and 500GB ssd.
Any help would be very welcome. Thanks

Just wanted to chime in that mine has been doing the same for a long time now (also a Ryzen 2500u / Vega). Windows shuts down to a black screen, but the power button light remains on. I have to hold the power button to fully shut it down or else the fan will slowly ramp up to max and the laptop gets quite hot for whatever reason.
- I have installed a new SSD and reinstalled Windows
- Updated BIOS
- Reinstalled video drivers / etc
- Disabled fast-boot
The only time I've ever gotten it to fully shutdown on it's own was right after reinstalling Windows. Ever since it's never shut down fully again. So I imagine it was a driver or update that Windows automatically installed? Hmmm...
There is a similar thread about the Realtek audio driver causing shutdown hangs, perhaps related? Will have to experiment with this possibility more.

OK,
I have installed Ubuntu and Manjaro on the ssd to check the shutdown behaviour with linux based systems.
Both linux systems shutdown normal without any kind of issues. This should rule out any kind of bios corruption.
Additionally I installed Autoruns (microsoft internal software) . I went ahead an unchecked every non-windows and non-driver item in that autoruns list. I tried to shutdown and reboot a couple of time but the problem still remained.
I started unselecting drivers and I suspect, the synaptics driver to be the reason behind this problem.
I will go ahead now and try to find a different driver version for this synaptics device and report back here if I made any progress.
