HP ENVY - 13-aq0011ms
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently did a clean install of Window 10 Home (64-bit; build 19044) on my son's laptop since there were numerous Adware/Malware/networking issues that I could not resolve. After the clean OS install (OS partition deleted and then recreated), I ran Windows Update a few times, and then I installed McAfee A/V and HP Support Assistant.

The first sign that something was wrong was that the speaker icon in the system try had something like a red X over the icon (no audio device assigned to Output), so I ran HP Support Assistant which returned no updates. I checked Computer Management and noticed about 12 devices in the “Other devices” section with the yellow/black exclamation mark over the device icon. So, I went to HP.com, detected the laptop and ran the “Detect my drivers” scan, but it still found no updates (not surprising given that the page states that the scan is “Powered by HP Support Assistant”). Finally, I updated the audio driver manually from the “All Drivers” section on the Update drivers page which resolved the Audio issue (after reboot?), yet many other devices still are showing with yellow/black exclamation mark Computer Management.

Much like this other post, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/can-t-find-important-drivers-fo..., the HP systems don't seem to recognize Build 19044. When I try manually update other drivers that I suspect are the some of those “Other devices”, I see three choices in many cases for the three main Windows 10 Builds (1809, 1903 and 1909), but I can’t figure out which one will work given my Build number 19044.

So how do I update the drivers to eliminate the issues and get all the devices installed properly in Computer Management?

Thanks in advance for the help,

Hi:

In order for me to help you, you would need to post each device description and hardware ID that needs a driver.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device...

You can also save yourself a lot of frustration by using the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall W10.

The cloud recovery tool will create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.

You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

Thank you. I'll give the HP cloud recovery tool a try and report back.
