Hi,

I am having issues trying to update my laptop from Windows 10 Version, 1803. I have troubleshooted many different solutions but to no avail. The windows update settings says that I am up to date but when I view the OS build info, I can see I am still on version 1803.

I have tried to download the latest windows 10 update via the update assistant available at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.

When I download, it appears to successfully complete and notifies that I need to restart my computer. However, when I restart at some point during the installation process a black screen flashes and it notifies me that the system is undoing the update and reverting back to the previous software.

Things I have tried:

  • Uninstalling anti-virus software
  • Updating all my Drivers and BIOS
  • Installing and running various Windows/HP Diagnostic tools to search for issues
  • Clearing hard drive space
  • Performing Windows Reset

Any help with this would be must appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

Hi all,

Thanks for your replies. I managed to resolve this by running the HP Recovery Manager and choosing Windows Recovery Environment which essentially resetted my laptop to factory settings. Thank God for OneDrive and the Cloud...

When I returned to the windows update setting version 1903 was ready for me to download and subsequently 1909. All worked without any issues.

Thanks,

Stephen

I strongly urge people to make a backup of the hard drive.

Download and install Media Creation Tool.

Create bootable USB.

Boot into USB.

Install Windows 10 that way.

Thank you for your reply to Slocke. Will the new version updatel recognize the Product Key for Digital Licenses?

Yes.

All PCs that came with Windows 10 installed have the product key embedded on the motherboard.
