Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I am trying to disable the VMD in bios so I can reinstall windows 11 but even when I disable and then save to exit, nothing changes when I go back to check on it.  The USB flash drive cannot see the SSD to reinstall the OS, so I had to disable the VMD but I cannot.  Is there a specific procedure for HP laptops that I need to follow?  I even tried to reset BIOS back to default settings just in case there were changes made since this was a secondhand laptop and still I was not able to disable VMD after another trial.  Your help is much appreciated. Please help as I am stuck and not able to do anything at this stage,  Your help is much appreciated.

@4Hamada80,

I didn't know some HP laptops come with an option to disable VMD in BIOS.

If you cannot disable VMD, your only options are either to attach some specific Intel RST VMD driver files to a Windows installation usb drive or to run a bootable recovery usb drive created with HP Cloud Recovery Tool.

If you want to use a Windows installation media with Microsoft download center, this thread below will tell you how to attach IRST driver to the installation usb drive.

If you want to use HP cloud recovery, here's a link for how to use it.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support

You need a 32 GB usb drive to hold the recovery media, and the Cloud Recovery Tool needs to be downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

If you need to use another PC to run the recovery tool, you'll be prompted to provide your laptop's model number, which is found on the back cover of your laptop.
