HP does not recognize my serial number for my Model 17-CN1053CL laptop.  I copied it from the back of the machine.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My HDD totally crashed and I cannot reload windows because apparently the disk driver is not present or not recognized by the system.  DISKPART does not recognize the HDD.  I cannot find the correct driver for this laptop on the HP website.

@HotCzech,

The Windows installer needs Intel RST storage controller drivers. You can follow the steps below for the IRST driver installation.

1. Create a Windows installation usb drive with Microsoft Media Creation Tool, which tends to be trouble free compared with ISO file-based installation usb drives during the IRST driver installation.

2. Download Intel RST driver from the link below. Run it as administrator and follow the on-screen instructions to perform the driver extraction.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp146501-147000/sp146929.exe

3. Go to C:\SWSetup\sp146929. Double click the sp146929 folder and copy the F6 folder to the root directory of a Windows installation usb drive. The F6 folder contains IRST drivers which the installation setup needs in order to detect the storage drive.

4. Connect the usb drive to the notebook and boot the system from the usb drive. When asked where to install Windows, click on Load Driver -> Browse -> the usb drive in the window that opens -> the F6 folder -> OK.

5. Multiple .inf driver files may be displayed. Select one and click Next. If no driver files are displayed, uncheck the box on the bottom left corner of the screen to display drivers. Find and select an 'iaStorVD.inf ' file and click Next to load the driver.

6. The storage drive may be displayed with multiple partitions. Delete every partition and you'll just see unallocated space. Click Next to proceed the installation.

If you still have the installation problem, you can use HP Cloud Recovery Tool to install Windows, so let us know how the installation goes.

That worked perfectly!  Thanks!

One more question.  When installing,  it asked for Product Key for windows 11.  I don't have one and since HDD was destroyed, I cannot get it from there.  How do I find the product key?

HP Recommended

Your notebook came with Windows11 Home, whose product key is stored in the BIOS.

Finish the initial setup after the W11 installation is complete, and when your notebook goes online, W11 will be automatically activated.
