I have an old laptop I am trying to login to retrieve old photos and word documents. But I cannot remember the password. Is there a way around that?

@ajunyor, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Access to an Old HP Laptop!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you've forgotten the password for your old HP laptop and cannot log in, here are some steps you can take to try to recover access:

Reset Microsoft Account Password:

  • If your laptop uses a Microsoft account to sign in, you can reset your password from another device. Visit the Microsoft Recover your account page and follow the instructions to reset your password.

Password Reset Disk:

  • If you've previously created a password reset disk on this laptop, you can use it to reset your password. Insert the disk and follow the on-screen instructions to reset the password.

Use Safe Mode:

  • Try starting your laptop in Safe Mode and log in using the built-in Administrator account, which may not be password-protected unless it was specifically set up by you.
  • To boot in Safe Mode, restart the laptop and press F8 continuously until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears, then select Safe Mode.

HP Recovery Manager:

  • Some HP laptops come with HP Recovery Manager, which can be used to perform a system recovery and potentially allow access to files if backups or recovery points exist. However, this might result in data loss so use cautiously.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
