HP Laptop 15-bs013dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was trying to erase external hard drive and erased the PC hard drive as the external was not plugged in. Right now the screen shows the hp logo and is "Attempting Repairs". This has been going on for 15 minutes no changes. I created a usb flash drive image of the PC following hp instructions but that is not helping the PC to start. If I reboot , the error message tells me to press and also www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup but can't get there on the pc. Need help.

You have deleted your Operating System.

Need to reinstall it again. One way is to get HP Recovery media. Wich may not be free deoending where you live and you need to wait HP to ship it to you.

Personally I will not bother to wait for HP support DVDs.

Go here and get Windows media creation tool:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Choose:

Create Windows 10 installation media

To get started, you will first need to have a licence to install Windows 10. You can then download and run the media creation tool. For more information on how to use the tool, see the instructions below.

Download tool now

Using this tool and some other PC you can create your own USB or DVD disks and use the USB to install new Windows 10.

@Deane4

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

That message is normally displayed when the Windows boot loader encounters problems and tries to repair itself. In this case, that tends to indicate that the partition containing the boot loader files is intact but the partition containing the OS files is corrupt or missing.

I don't know why the recovery media you made is not working, but at this point, your only recourse is liable to be something known as HP Recovery Media:

HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded.
You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
Once there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.
Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:
If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1
If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html
NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!
If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836
When you get the media, if it is a USB stick, insert it into your PC, pressing F9 to get a Boot menu, then select the External USB Hard Drive to boot from it.

@Deane4

You do not "need a license" to install Win10 from the media you create.

When you see the Window prompting you to enter a product key, simply click the entry that allows you to skip it.  The installation will then continue.

Since your PC already was running Win10, it was already registered with the MS Activation Servers. When you then go online after the installation is done, and reconnect to the Internet, your PC will contact MS, see that it has already been registered, and reactivate automatically.

Problem with doing it this way is that will not install any of the HP drivers needed for your PC, as that only installs drivers provide by MS.  If you then go to this page, you can download and install the HP drivers:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-bs000-laptop-pc/15551412/model/17850885

Good Luck

Thank you the detailed response. I was able to use my wife's pc and download your suggestion. My PC is now in the process of reinstalling windows and have created recovery media. The community really came to my aid in rapid time. I am very grateful for the advice of all of the responses.

Glad you are fine now.

You will have clean Widnows and in order to have all the latest drivers automatically from HP go here:

https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-bs000-laptop-pc/15551412/model/17850885

and in Software-Solutions sections download, install and run

HP Support Assistant

8.6.18.11 Rev.A 34.2 MB May 4, 2018

this tool will help you to get all the leatest driver updates and to keep your PC in good health.

No need manually to download other drivers from there the HP Support Assistant will do that for you when you run it and check Update section.
