@JaneLouease, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
I understand you're unable to unlock your screen because you've forgotten your PIN or password. No worries, I'll guide you through the steps to regain access.
If You Forgot Your PIN:
You can reset your PIN by following these steps:
- On the lock screen, click I forgot my PIN.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account password.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set a new PIN.
If You Forgot Your Password (Local Account):
If you're using a local account (not linked to a Microsoft account), follow these steps:
- On the sign-in screen, click Reset password (you must have set up security questions previously).
- Answer the security questions.
- Set a new password.
If you didn’t set up security questions, you’ll need to reset the PC using recovery options.
If You Forgot Your Microsoft Account Password:
- Go to the Microsoft Password Reset page.
- Follow the prompts to reset your password.
- Use the new password to sign in.
If None of the Above Work:
You may need to perform a system recovery. Here’s how:
- Turn off the PC.
- Turn it back on and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly.
- Choose Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
- Select Keep my files (if you want to preserve your data).
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
