Product: COMPAQ CQ61
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I want to upgrade the OS of my Compaq CQ 61(4gb, 250 hd)  from window7 to window 10. Is it advisable?

Is it safe?

HP Recommended

You can still upgrade for free to Windows 10 Pro only if you have Windows 7 Pro now.

If you have Windows 7 Home Premium then you upgrade for free to Windows 10 Home.

 

Since Microsoft is discontinuing security updates for Windows 7 in 6 months, I would personally take advantage of the free upgrade.

 

The first thing I would do is use Macrium Reflect Free to make an image backup of your hard drive to an external USB drive.

Then download Microsoft's Media Creation Tool and install it then run it to upgrade to Windows 10.

Windows 10 will activate when you go online.

 

Often times, Windows 10 will have all the drivers your laptop needs.
