Product: HP Pavilion dv7-2014tx Entertainment Notebook PC
Operating System: Chrome OS

For anyone that likes to re-purpose older hardware

Found one of these old laptops curbside today. Installed Chrome OS Flex on it. Runs surprisingly well even though computer has a mechanical HDD, not SSD. BIOS version F.36. 4GB RAM. 500GB HDD. Exact model is DV7-2014TX . From what I gather it came out sometime in 2012.

Bright, big clear screen.

Surprisingly the hideaway , tiny remote control works for volume up/down, mute and FFW/pause in YouTube

Two things not working, Bluetooth and the WiFi adapter. WiFi searches for networks but doesn't find any.

Everything else is fine. Webcam usable in Zoom. Using ethernet for internet. Updated to latest DEV version.

I'll try a USB Bluetooth dongle and USB wifi dongle next. Also will swap out to an SSD.

 

UPDATE - removed both mechanical HDDs today AND the DVD Rom. Installed SSD. Working well. So much faster and battery life better now too. Plus machine considerably lighter.
Also found a very old Linksys USB wifi adapter that works great with Chome OS Flex. Model number WUSB600N.
