Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
I read your post about choosing a Windows OS for your laptop and wanted to help.
For "best performance" you clearly need the right drivers -- and the latest OS for which HP supplies drivers for your laptop is Windows 8. Those same drivers would work in Win8.1.
If you choose Win10 instead, there are no HP drivers and you would be stuck using the MS-supplied drivers and those provide only the most basic functionality.
Once you install Win8.1, then download and install this utility to prevent it from being upgraded to Win10: GRC | Never10
Good Luck
