HP Chromebook x360 - 14c-ca0030ca
Chrome OS

Hello,

I have been having issues with my HP Chromebook x360 (14c-ca0030ca).  I get an error saying Chrome OS is missing or damaged. I have followed the steps outlined here: https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/1080595?hl=en&ref_topic=3417251, using the Recovery tool and a USB stick. The recovery process always fails.

I understand it is no longer under warranty. Could this be a hardware issue?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

I see that you are facing Chrome OS-related issues on your system. Do not worry, we are here to fix it.

May I know from when are you facing this issue?

Did you make any hardware or software-related changes to it?

Also, what is the error message you get when you try to use the USB for recovery?

Thank very much for your response!

The issue first started happening about 3-4 months ago.
I didn't make any hardware changes or software changes other than the regular ChromeOs updates.

The error message I get is "no bootable kernel found on disk", Recovery reason 0x5b.

From my understanding this is due to the OS not being found on my storage.

When I do the recovery it fails. Forces me to restart but allows me to start the signing in process to ChromeOs, as if it is working. Eventually the screen goes black and I am taken back to the initial error screen "Chrome Os Missing or Damaged".

Any advice would be great!
