HP Chromebook x360 14 inch 14c-cc0000 (27A38AV)
Chrome OS

I have a Chromebook that I can no longer use!

It's a x360 14c-cc0003sa, with the power button on the side (not on the keyboard).

Yesterday morning it was fine, while using it I needed to restart because of an OS upgrade. I restarted it, logged in and carried on with no issues. At the end of my use I selected to power off the device.

A few hours later I opened the lid and turned it on as usual.

No output on the screen (tried the brightness buttons to no avail).

The machine does turn on, the power button shows a white light and I can hear a fan - for 10 seconds - then it powers down and repeats.

I've tried holding down the power button for a long time.

I've tried holding refresh and escape and the power button.

I've tried holding refresh, escape, the back button and the power button.

I've tried holding the refresh button and power button.

I've tried ctrl alt r in various order combinations.

I've let the battery completely power down and cool down and then booting again.

Nothing has had any effect on the blind boot loop.

I'm stuck, all I can think is the upgrade has corrupted something somewhere.

Any suggestions or pointers?

Update: the machine is bricked from my perspective. Had to speak to HP and send it back for repair under warranty.

Hi @Gp84,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Chromebook. A black screen with a boot loop can be quite frustrating, but there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the problem. Here are some suggestions.

  • Power cycle the Chromebook: Disconnect the power adapter, remove any external peripherals or devices, and then press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. Release the power button, reconnect the power adapter, and try turning on the Chromebook again.
  • Perform a hard reset: If power cycling doesn't help, try performing a hard reset. To do this, locate the refresh key on your Chromebook's keyboard. It is usually located above the number 3 or 4 key and has an arrow in a circle. Press and hold the refresh key, then press and hold the power button. Continue holding both buttons for about 10 seconds, then release them. The Chromebook should restart.
  • Enter recovery mode: If the above steps don't work, you can try entering recovery mode to restore your Chromebook's operating system. To enter recovery mode, turn off the Chromebook completely. Then, press and hold the Esc key and the Refresh key (the key with an arrow in a circle) simultaneously. While holding these keys, press the power button once. Keep holding the Esc and Refresh keys until you see a screen that says "Chrome OS is missing or damaged." Follow the on-screen instructions to recover your Chromebook.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
