Hi @migsdlvr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand your HP Chromebook is frozen or unresponsive due to a recent update. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow:

Perform a Hard Reboot

  1. Turn Off the Chromebook: Press and hold the Power button until the Chromebook turns off.

  2. Restart with Refresh Button: While the Chromebook is off, press and hold the Refresh key, then press the Power button. Release the Refresh key once the Chromebook powers on.

Perform a hard reboot by holding the Refresh and Power buttons

Check for Error Messages

  • If any error message, such as "Chrome OS is missing or damaged," appears, follow the instructions on the screen to insert a recovery USB stick into one of the ports.

Troubleshoot Hardware Issues Using Chrome Diagnostics

If the Chromebook boots but is not functioning well or the device encounters frequent freezes, you can use Chrome Diagnostics:

  1. Launch Chrome Diagnostics: Enter Diagnostics in the Launcher search bar and click on the app when it appears.

  2. Run Tests: Perform tests on battery, CPU, and memory to detect any hardware issues.

System Recovery

If the issue persists and the Chromebook does not boot normally, perform a system recovery:

  1. Create Recovery Media: Use the Chromebook Recovery Utility on another computer with internet access to create recovery media on a USB flash drive or SD card.

  2. Enter Recovery Mode: Turn off the Chromebook, press and hold the Esc + Refresh keys, and then press the Power button.

  3. Start Recovery: Insert the recovery media when prompted and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall the Chrome OS.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
