My chrome book just randomly did this when it was working a couple hours ago. The chromebook will turn on but won't go past a blank grey screen. It lights up so it isn't a dead screen. I've tried resetting it but it won't work.

Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
If your Chromebook is stuck on a blank grey screen, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
Force Restart: Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the device powers off. Then turn it back on.
Check External Devices: Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, peripherals) that might be causing issues, then restart the Chromebook.
Boot into Recovery Mode:
- Turn off the Chromebook.
- Press and hold the Esc key and the Refresh key (the circular arrow) together, then press the Power button.
- When you see a screen with a yellow exclamation mark or a Chrome logo, you can release the keys. This will take you to recovery mode.
Reset Chrome OS: If you can access recovery mode, you can try resetting Chrome OS by following the on-screen instructions. This will erase all local data, so only do this if you have backed up important files.
Hardware Reset: If the above steps don't work, you can try performing a hardware reset. For most Chromebooks, this involves pressing a combination of keys (usually Ctrl + Shift + Refresh). Check your model's manual for specific instructions.
Check for Updates: If you manage to get it working, make sure your Chrome OS is updated to the latest version.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
