Hi @73greg,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be an issue with the sensor that detects when the Chromebook lid is opened or closed. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue.

Power Cycle the Chromebook:

  • Turn off the Chromebook completely.
  • Hold down the power button for about 10-15 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Wait a few seconds, then power it back on.

Check for Updates:

  • Sometimes, software updates can fix bugs or issues with hardware detection.
  • Connect the Chromebook to Wi-Fi and check for any pending updates in the Settings menu.

Reset Hardware:

  • Ensure that there are no physical obstructions around the hinges of the Chromebook that could interfere with the lid closing properly.
  • Clean the area around the hinges to remove any debris.

Perform a Hardware Reset:

  • If the issue persists, perform a hardware reset:
    • Turn off the Chromebook.
    • Press and hold the Refresh (circular arrow) key and tap the Power button.
    • When the Chromebook starts up, release the Refresh key.

Check for Sensor Issues:

  • Sometimes, the sensor that detects the lid open/close action may be malfunctioning.
  • Contact HP support for further assistance, especially if the Chromebook is still under warranty.

Check Power Settings:

  • Ensure that the Chromebook is not set to sleep or hibernate mode too quickly when the lid is closed. Adjust these settings in the Chrome OS settings menu.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
