I am trying to use the recover files command on windows command prompt, however I do not have administrative access even though my account says "administrator". I always get some kind of message saying "Access denied" when I try to do almost anything in command prompt. I have tried using the windows button + R and using "runas /user:Administratorcmd" it opens the command prompt as admin but it asks for a password (which I have never set up), and I cannot type anything in the prompt. I have also tried right clicking command prompt and choosing "run as administrator", however whenever I click on it nothing happens and nothing opens. I have also tried the command "net user administrator /active:yes" and what I get is "System 5 error. Access is denied." Please help

Hi

Does that mean that Piriform Recuva would also be blocked.

Not that I want to circumvent a password, but I use XCOPY.

So if Safe Mode wont cut it, try booting from a DVD/USB and trying from there.

So, I can't restore my computer since I never set up a restore point. I managed to get my computer into safe mode, and I got admin access to command, however whenever I try to use RECOVER it says that the drive is in use and that the command can't be completed. I'm not sure what you mean by "Piriform Recuva" and booting from a USB or DVD.

Hi

https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva   to recuva lost/missing/deleted files.

AND you dont have a Recovery DVD/USB?  Fine.

Next is the 'dirty bit' that may be relevant.  NEVER allow Fast Start-Up if you value your data.

The Hard Disk is set/put into suspend mode and never shuts down, so it is Read Only.
