What is the full model number or product number of your CQ58?

Since W10 is not a supported operating system, you run the risk of updating the BIOS using an unsupported operating system.

You're very welcome.

Here is the link to the last BIOS update HP released for your notebook:

Hopefully, the W8 file will work fine on W10.

Hello Paul,

I downloaded and installed the F39 BIOS version advised by you, it works but the boot time is quite slow before reaching the windows screen it hang almost 1 minute this even after I've upgraded the RAM to 8GB and replaced the old HDD with a new A400 Kingston 240GB..

Now I'm running Windows 11 64 and the login after the boot is very fast in few seconds I can start to work.

I'm wondering if after these upgrade a more recent BIOS version will perform better, since in one of your previous message you were mentioning the F45 version but for a different Compaq CQ58 model.

I'm also considering to replace the CPU with a Intel Corei5 3320M with a BGA 1023 standard socket but I'm not sure if it will match with my motherboard 1858 because the actual installed i3 2328M by the manufacturer may be has a different socket and I'm not sure if we have a match  between these 2 processors that allow the replacement.

I will gladly listen to your advise on these matters.

Thank you in advance for you kind and r precious assistance.

Best regards,

Enrico

Is it may be possible to consider a Intel Core i73940XM which apparently are also compatible with the G2 socket?

Hi:

The best processor you can install would be the i5-3230M, as indicated in chapter 1 of the service manual.

I wouldn't be able to help you with a newer BIOS update.

F.39 is the one HP has on the support page.

If version F.45 is for a notebook with an Intel processor you can try that at your own risk.

You may also want to see if you can go back to an earlier BIOS version if F.39 has caused problems.

The previous versions are listed under the Revision History section on the F.39 BIOS update link I gave you.

But I have no idea if that will work.
