Hi @DeveloperBaris,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your Compaq Presario CQ61-205SF Notebook PC shuts down during a BIOS update and now won't turn on, this indicates a potentially serious issue. Interrupting a BIOS update can lead to a corrupted BIOS, which prevents the system from booting. Here are the steps you can take to try to recover from this situation:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Disconnect Power and Remove Battery:

  • Unplug the power adapter.
  • Remove the battery from the laptop.

Drain Residual Power:

  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.

Reconnect Power:

  • Insert the battery back into the laptop.
  • Connect the power adapter.

Attempt to Power On:

  • Press the power button to see if the laptop turns on.

2. BIOS Recovery Using a Key Combination

Some HP and Compaq laptops have a built-in BIOS recovery feature. Here's how to try to use it:

Prepare a USB Drive:

  • Download the latest BIOS update for your model from the HP Support page.
  • Extract the BIOS update file to an empty USB drive formatted in FAT32.

Insert USB Drive:

  • Insert the USB drive into the laptop.

Initiate BIOS Recovery:

  • Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press and hold the power button for 2-3 seconds, and release the power button but keep holding the Windows + B keys.
  • You may hear beeps, and the screen might remain blank for 15-20 seconds before showing the BIOS recovery screen.

Follow On-Screen Instructions:

  • If the BIOS recovery screen appears, follow the on-screen instructions to recover the BIOS.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @DeveloperBaris,

find the next set of steps below.

3. Remove and Re-seat the CMOS Battery

Removing and re-seating the CMOS battery can sometimes reset the BIOS settings and might help in recovery.

Open the Laptop:

  • Power off the laptop and remove the battery and power adapter.
  • Open the laptop to access the motherboard (refer to the service manual if needed).

Remove CMOS Battery:

  • Locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard (it looks like a small silver coin cell battery).
  • Carefully remove the CMOS battery.

Wait and Reinsert:

  • Wait for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Reinsert the CMOS battery.

Reassemble and Power On:

  • Reassemble the laptop and reconnect the battery and power adapter.
  • Try to power on the laptop.

If the above methods do not work, the BIOS might be severely corrupted, and you may need to contact phone support for further options.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
