Pavilion Model 15-p078na

My son has owned his laptop for nearly two years. He reported that when he turns it on it clicks and then reports Hard Drive fault - No Operating System Present. Ive confirmed this occures so have removed the hard drive and connected it to an external caddy and applied power and confirmed it clicks so is not spinning up.

I can replace the hard drive but Im not sure what operating system this had installed and my son doent know either.

I dont have any Sytem Operating disks as these have been lost since it was unpacked two years ago if there were any.

Ive looked online and I dont have the option of ordering any for this model.

Is the licence hard coded in firmware and if so how do i know what OS to install.

Any advice on best method to recover and install the operating system would be appreciated.

Please use the following information to create installation media

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows8

During the installation process, please skip the step asking to enter prodict key and continue. Windows will activate when you come online.

After that, run Windows updates few times (say 1 hr apart). Then any missing drivers or pre-installed software, please go to the following site to download and install to your machine

@Richjo22

Your machine came with  Windows 8.1 (64 bits)

    https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c04372296

Vendors (including HP) now do not supply DVD's for OS and drivers on many computers including notebooks or laptops, probably 6 or 7 years already. The product license key should be still embedded in BIOS of your machine.

The question is: did you upgrade it to free Windows 10 or still with Windows 8.1. We need to know the situation before we can help the right way.
